Preparing to lay down gold – worktop with some gilding paraphernalia
Opening a book of gold leaf – with care!
And puff very gently to flatten a piece of gold leaf onto the gilder’s pad ….
Cutting a piece of gold leaf with a gilding knife on a gilder’s pad
Lifting the gold with the Gilder’s tip
Wetting the bole so that the gold adheres –
The gold leaf leaves the Gilder’s tip dropping onto the wetted bole
Gently moving the gold leaf with the Gilder’s knife on the pad –
Using the Gilder’s tip to lift another piece of leaf
The gold leaf has just left the Gilder’s tip and dropped onto the wetted bole
oops, that one has torn.
And that’s what happens when you hesitate! Even to have the photo taken …..
Once the gold is sufficiently dry using an agate stone to burnish it ….
Burnishing …. and then it will be time to distress the gold –
